Age Calculator

Age Calculator

Note: This age is based on the most common system where age increases on your birthday. Zodiac sign is based on Western astrology.

Age can be calculated in different ways depending on cultural traditions. This calculator uses the most common system, where a person’s age increases each year on their birthday. For example, someone who has lived for 3 years and 11 months is considered 3 years old and will turn 4 on their next birthday. This method is widely used in Western countries.

In some cultures, age is counted differently. In certain traditions, age may include the current year of life, meaning someone who is “20 years old” might also be described as being in their 21st year. A notable example is the traditional Chinese age system, where individuals are considered 1 year old at birth, and age increases each year at the Lunar New Year, not their birthday. For instance, a baby born just one day before the Chinese New Year may be considered 2 years old just two days later.

Additionally, calculating months and days can be tricky, especially when the starting date falls at the end of a month. For example, from February 20 to March 20 is counted as one month. But from February 28, 2022, to March 31, 2022, the result can vary. If we count February 28 to March 28 as one month, the result is 1 month and 3 days. But if we treat both February 28 and March 31 as month-end dates, the result is simply 1 month. Both interpretations are valid, depending on the method used.

This calculator follows the first approach, where the difference is based on exact calendar dates.
